Lemuria

"Now I got a new fire, burnin' in my eyes

Lightin' up the darkness, movin' like a meteorite

All fired up (now I believe there comes a time)

All fired up (where everything just falls in line)

- All Fired Up, Pat Benatar

It probably sounds a little demotivating to finish a chapter stating that what you desire and what you fear are on the other side of what you are trying to achieve.

That's the interesting part about evolution.

We are traveling outside our comfort zone to a place that our ego is not a huge fan of, and we are hard wired to default as much of our daily existence as possible to automatic programming.  Change and evolution mean a disruption to this auto-button functionality, which leads to all kinds of discomfort to our everyday thoughts and routines. Before you know it, all of the self-doubt, internal critic and anxiety fairies come out to have a field day.

Let me give you an example.

I say I want to stand on a stage in front of a whole lot of people and speak.  To achieve that desired state means I am attracting attention, criticism and potential recognition in my "normal" daily life.   I am also the same person that used to crumble with feedback, let everyone else in a boardroom speak first, and generally avoids people on every part of my morning routine.  In fact, if I see someone who stops me and wants to talk, many times the next day I will take a different route.   Isn't that awful?!   But the truth is that my morning walk is sacred to me.   It is my hour to think, to brainstorm, to connect to creative energy and drum up whatever it is that I plan to do that day and, therefore, any distractions prevent me from achieving that goal.

It's not that there isn't a time and place when I absolutely love to have conversations and chat.  It's just that I'm usually very driven in the mornings, and studies show that one interruption in our focus can take up to 28 minutes to correct and get back on track.

So, I crave being able to make an impact and achieve this awesome vision I have, but I also simultaneously fear success.

That is what I mean about entering the Lemurian Portal.

What we desire and what we fear is on the other side.

I suppose I should explain where Lemuria came from, and besides, I think this story is kinda cool.

If you have followed my writing, you will already know that one day I will be lying on a lounge chair in Bora Bora at the Four Seasons overwater bungalow huts.   (It's just a matter of time really, since I look at the picture on my vision board every morning and dream about how delightful it will be.)

What you may not know is that I'm a spiritual junkie and I believe in all kinds of signs and symbolism from the universe we live in.  Before I started this little adventure of creating a livin'-your-best-life-and-embracing-change kind of program, I was bored in lockdown and quite frankly unsure what to do with myself. One weekend afternoon I pulled out an Oracle deck of cards called "Work your Light" that I totally love.

I shuffled the deck and decided that I would read whatever message came up from the cards and interpret the meaning, and then I pulled the card for "Lemuria".

It says "Creating heaven on earth.   It's happening."

I went to the place in the explanation book where it gives insight about the card and here is an excerpt as to what it said;

"Lemuria is one of the Earth's lost lands, where heaven really was a place on earth.   In Lemuria, life worked in harmony, all beings were seen as equal and were deeply reverent.  Perhaps you too believe that heaven really can be a place on earth.  Perhaps you are part of a team who, at their soul level, is devoted to drive change and create this kind of harmony on the planet.  You are guided to hold the frequency of Lemuria in your own community, family, workplace or within yourself or others.  Keep doing what you're doing and remember that the only way to heal the world around us is to first begin with ourselves."

The picture on the front of this card is of beautiful turquoise water and looks like an oasis of happiness to soak into, with a distant pink and orange sky.

Oh Lemuria!   You are singing to me Girl.

I went to google and typed in "Lemuria" and two very synchronistic things happened.

There was a map of Lemuria, this myth of a lost continent, and guess where it is?!

It's right around where Bora Bora is!!!!!!!!  It is somewhere smack right in the middle of the Indian and Pacific oceans.

Lemuria, you are talking to me.   I am hearing you and it looks like we are going to hang out and try to help people create their own heaven on earth.   I like this.  This is fun.

Hello Lemuria!

Then I tried to determine who else has used this concept in a business name or idea.

"The Lemurian Star is the name of the ship in Captain America: Winter Soldier."

HA.

Of course, it is.

Captain Freaking America.

shamed Captain America after watching the first movie and then liked him a little more each Marvel movie I watched.

Of course, it's Captain America.

The only reference you can find on the entire internet that used Lemuria in movies or something famous.

Therefore, this is now my tribute to Captain America.

Thank you Cap.

That is where the Lemurian Portal came from.

Lemuria speaks to me because it is a clear picture I can see.

If I look at the card in front of me, I can see it come to life.  If I read the paragraph describing the myth of the lost land, I can create images in my mind of what it would look like.

In order to re-program any change, we need to create the image of what "ideal" looks like.

One of the best exercises I've done for this is to take an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper and draw a line across the middle of the page horizontally.  Underneath that line, I made as many notes as I could about my life.   My current job, my weight, my routine, my habits, my intake of food and alcohol, my time spent with friends and family, my time on development or learning something new, my time to unwind and relax, time I spend on hobbies I enjoy, etc.

This could be done with a scoring system rating each topic out of 10.   It could be done with random words that all just describe the picture of life today.  It could be done in essay or journal form.  The point is that it's the beginning, and it's important to document the beginning of the journey.

"Above the line" is the fun part.

Above the line is where we write anything and everything we want to achieve.  Above the line is where I write Bora Bora and a Ted Talk and a published book and, and, and....

Above the line is where I could write a statement.   To "live a happy and healthy existence and to make a positive impact in the world."  Above the line is also where you could set targets to raise each of the scored equations to.

Above the line is the Desired State.

Below the line is the Current State.

In business, we call this a Gap Analysis and we are aiming to identify the difference between the Desired state and the Current state, which we call the Gap.

If you are drinking this Kool-Aid, the gap is the juice - and the intention is to close the gap, get juiced and basically become your own Superhero.

Pow!

Boom!

What?!

SO, order the cake, light the sparklers, and start dreaming of the suit you are going to wear because who doesn't want to become their own Superhero?

I can hear that voice.

"I know what I have to do, I just don't know if I have the strength to do it.

You do."

(Rise of Skywalker, 2019)

"Your mind can always override any programming; you just need to learn how."

- Sarah Lee

:)

(I actually think there was a rather similar reference to this in the Last Jedi in 2017, but I'm going to pretend I wrote it.)

If you want some extra juice for inspiration, here are a couple more ideas.

  • Write a letter to your future self.  I know this sounds hokey, but it's all about re-wiring and part of that re-wiring means the tape we play to ourselves internally. Any chance you can get to repeat to yourself this vision is worthwhile.  Sit quietly for a few minutes and close your eyes.
    • How does it feel to achieve what you set out to do?
    • What does the picture look like in your mind?
    • How does your body feel when it thinks about achieving this?
    • Is there resistance or a block that you can feel?
    • Does this feel like something you want to embrace?
  • Watch "the Biology of Belief"
    • This is a 90-minute video on You Tube by Dr. Bruce Lipton, who also has authored the same titled book. (And spoiler alert, he provides scientific data that what we believe has an impact on our reality.)   If you don't currently drink that Kool-Aid, there are some fascinating points makes on his videos about what happens when we reprogram our belief system, that are worth considering.  There are also much shorter clips than the full 90 minutes that talk about his research in epigenetics and psychoneurology.  (Epigenetics and psycho-neurology are fancy words that, in English, mean we have far more control than we think about our life and there is a strong correlation between what we think and our health.)   "How to change your story to change your life" is a great 12 minute one to reflect on.
  • One last thing.  At every opportunity in the next week, whenever the negative loop of self-talk starts to play, consciously think "ENOUGH" and repeat this line below.

I hold the power to change.

Trust me, you do.
